Cammino di Guglielmo

The Cammino di Guglielmo retraces the footsteps of the young pilgrim William, born in Vercelli in 1085, who lived mostly as a hermit in the mountains of Irpinia, the Vulture and the Lucanian Dolomites. It runs for 320 km in 15 stages, crossing Campania, Basilicata and Puglia, three regional parks and more than 30 municipalities. It traces a line from west to east, from the Abbey of Montevergine on Monte Partenio, in Irpinia, to the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre in Barletta, a place that recalls the embarkation for the Holy Land. It is a one-way route, from the mountains to the sea, following the River Ofanto and crossing the Via Appia in a crescendo of harmony and beauty, and touching the places dear to the young pilgrim William, who later became a saint.
