Hall of the Bishops / Hall of the Coats of Arms
We are now in the Hall of the Bishops, whose walls are decorated with the coats of arms of the bishops who led the diocese of Nusco, from St Amatus to Monsignor Antonio Nuzzi, the last to hold the office before the creation, in 1986, of the Archdiocese of Sant'Angelo dei Lombardi-Conza-Nusco-Bisaccia. Monsignor Nuzzi's coat of arms is particularly significant, as it bears two Roman numerals: LXV, because he was the 65th and last bishop of Nusco, and I, because he was the first archbishop of the new archdiocese.
The hall is furnished with original 19th-century furniture. It also contains two display cases with the oldest treasures in the museum: a processional cross from the mother church of Morra De Sanctis, made by an unknown Neapolitan silversmith between 1465 and 1505, and a small bronze pax depicting the risen Christ appearing to the Apostles, probably the work of a Venetian artist of the second half of the 15th century, from the sacristy of the Church of San Martino in Cairano.
On the walls hang portraits on canvas of bishops of the 19th and 20th centuries.
