Processional Cross
This Neapolitan cross is a masterpiece that takes us straight back to the medieval origins of the parish church of Morra De Sanctis, where it comes from.
The back of the cross repeats the same composition, with a Madonna and Child at the centre recalling the Gothic Madonnas of northern Europe. The Child, with a grown-up expression, holds a small bird and clutches his mother's veil. On the four arms are the symbols of the Evangelists: the eagle of St John, the winged lion of St Mark, a headless angel, symbol of St Matthew, and the winged ox of St Luke.
