The Treasury of St Amatus
The Treasury of St Amatus
Despite thefts over the years, the Treasury of St Amatus remains not only a collection of great artistic and cultural value but also a testament to the strong bond and devotion that the people of Nusco have always felt for their patron saint. The treasury includes liturgical objects used in the most important religious celebrations, such as processional crosses, monstrances of various shapes, chalices, patens, ciboria, holy-water buckets, thuribles, plaques, candlesticks, sets of altar cards, basins, sealing-wax ladles, holy oil vessels, trays and croziers. These finely crafted objects were made in Neapolitan workshops between the 18th and 19th centuries. Most are in silver, worked with embossing, chasing, gilding and engraving, and decorated with sacred motifs.
