This fine chalice in chased and embossed silver-gilt is a fully Neoclassical work, made by a Roman silversmith in the early 19th century, as confirmed by the hallmarks of the Papal States. It is imposing in size and was originally intended for the most solemn celebrations of the liturgical year. Of particular interest are the three figures in the round set around the base, representing the theological virtues of Faith, Hope and Charity.
