Cairano, historic centre

Cairano is known for its panoramic position and for several sites of cultural interest. The historic centre retains its original layout of stone houses and narrow lanes. Here stands the open-air theatre, used for events and cultural activities. The Via delle Cantine, a street of cellars carved into the rock, bears witness to the local winemaking tradition. At the top of the village is the Wind Organ, an installation that uses air currents to produce sound. Today Cairano is an example of how a village in inland Irpinia can be restored and given new life.
